Friendsgiving Fun

Updated: Mar 1

Nowadays, hosting a Friendsgiving dinner is a fairly popular way for a friend group to celebrate Thanksgiving before everyone heads back to their families. However, it is also the first major holiday that college students get to celebrate with each other each fall.

For most freshmen in particular, Friendsgiving is the first time that they may celebrate a large holiday with their new found friends. Celebrating together can facilitate an environment that everyone can remember during those long, and sometimes lonely, winter breaks. It can help say, remember what you have to look forward to! Remember your family-away-from-family.

At T&M, we vote that if you do a Friendsgiving, do it right. Invite each guest to prepare a special Thanksgiving dish from each of their families, and tell why that dish is so important to them. This tip can be especially memorable if you have friends from other countries. It is the perfect opportunity for them to share a dish from their homes, and to celebrate an American holiday at the same time. While unique dishes are welcomed, don’t forget to have the basics: turkey, mac n’ cheese, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and Turner’s personal favorite, corn pudding.
